While the Day Zero deadline may have moved out slightly, with Level 6B water restrictions in place in Cape Town, the pressure is still on businesses and citizens to play their part to save water. This has already meant standard ‘Leave the toilet as you found it’ office bathroom etiquette has had to take a back seat to the environmentally conscious new normal.
All businesses should have already reduced their water consumption by 45% and the Western Cape Government is urging businesses owners to ensure they have contingency plans in place for the worst case scenario. According to a survey by the Cape Chamber of Commerce, 69% of businesses in the Cape Town area have indicated they intend to continue operating even if Day Zero becomes a reality.
So what solutions should you be considering to increase your water saving efforts and ensure your doors stay open after Day Zero?
- Know what you need
Planning for Day Zero must start with establishing exactly what your office’s minimum daily water and sanitation needs are. With that information, you’ll be in a better position to know what to plan for. If you own your own office building, start to explore the alternatives to ensure your staff can continue to go about their daily business (you know what we mean).
If you’re renting office space, make sure your landlord is aware of your employees minimum needs and that an action plan is in place in the event of the office park sanitation system being with low or no water and being unable to function.
- Look for sanitation solutions
Your office should already have implemented water saving measures in the office toilets – limiting flushing and using hand sanitizer. In the event of the office sanitation system not being able to function, or if you want to take pre-emptive measures, consider installing mobile toilets or portable chemical toilets in the office basement, carpark or elsewhere on the property.
Fancy Flush Cape Town have received approval from the Water and Sanitation Department to pump and deliver treated effluent water in order to service our units, meaning we can continue to pump and service units during the current restrictions. We offer a wide range of portable toilet and sanitation solutions that can be tailored and configured to suit the needs of your office.
- Maintain hygiene standards
Ensuring the comfort and health of your employees is essential – and your responsibilities as an employer don’t change in the event of Day Zero. If you opt to keep your doors open and expect your employees to come to work, you’ll need to be able to provide the necessary sanitation facilities.
The Fancy Flush products and services are designed to ensure complete comfort and the highest hygiene standards – even under the most challenging circumstances. We offer comprehensive hygiene services and ensure our mobile toilet units are serviced as needed by expertly trained cleaning staff.
