Sports events are among the most complex to plan and organise. Especially when it comes to ablution facilities. While big stadiums may be well-equipped for sporting events with throngs of spectators, other outdoor sports which take competitors and spectators to locations far away from creature comforts and basic amenities, require a whole other level of logistical planning.
As the leaders in portable ablution solutions, at Fancy Flush we’ve worked with numerous sporting event planners to ensure competitors and spectators have easy access to toilets, showers and even sports cleaning equipment – no matter where the event is.
Here’s our guide to planning the right ablution facilities for your sports event:
Location
Mountain biking and trail running events often take place in off-the-beaten track, mountainous and rocky areas. This can pose a challenge for transporting and setting up portable ablution facilities – but nothing is too difficult with a bit of forward planning.
When plotting out rest stops and camping areas, work with your portable ablution service provider to ensure the areas you choose are accessible and that there is enough level ground available for the placement of porta loos and other ablution facilities.
Duration
If an event is taking place overnight or even longer, consider providing more than just porta loos. The entire experience of the event can be transformed by offering competitors a much-needed hot shower after a long day of strenuous activity. Even if it isn’t an overnight event, a shower can be much-needed before the drive home.
Our Fancy Shower unitsuse gas geysers to provide hot and cold water. They also feature their own fresh water tanks to provide quick showers even where there is no water supply. A single tank carries enough water for up to 20 people to have quick showers. All grey water is also stored in another tank to ensure no mess on site.
Depending on the length of the event, you may also need to consider how often toilet and shower units will need to be serviced and if they will need to be moved to different locations.
Event type
When planning ablution facilities, numbers are important. And it’s not just about how many people you expect in total – it’s also about considering what the usage patterns will be, and when the most people may need use the available facilities at the same time.
For example, if drinks are available for spectators, toilet usage will be more frequent. Similarly, if you anticipate all competitors arriving on site at the same time before and after the event, you’ll need to have more facilities available at any given time to avoid long queues and hot tempers.
Special equipment care
For mountain biking events, it’s also very important to offer bike cleaning facilities. Competitors may have spent more on their bikes than a deposit on a home, and providing facilities to look after them can make a huge difference to the participants.
The Fancy Flush Bike Wash unithelps riders keep their bikes clean and free of dirt and mud before heading home or starting the next leg of the competition. It can be supplied with water in even the most remote locations.
